Diary of a Twink
Thursday 29th May: SHOOTING DAY
6.00am Alarm rings. Whose bloody idea was this? 7.00am Still buttering sandwiches when rest of the Herculean Productions crew arrive. Start loading someone's car in between buttering. (Eventually need all 4 cars fully loaded). 7.30am  Actors arrive. Pile into the cars and head for the hills. 7.45am  Start to unload cars and carry props, equipment and other stuff from car-park to location. Hmmm... seems a tad further when there's seventeen journeys to make, fully laden. Maybe if I play on not wanting to damage the nails I spent ages doing last night I'll get away with it. Or, maybe not. 8.45am (approx)  "HELLO." ... (perched on top of step ladder, holding on to flapping wigwam) ... "Hello...Could someone just pass me a...." Never mind. If a job wants doing and all that. 9.15am  Cameras set up and ready for action. All bloody knackered. 10.30am  I escape! The Twink of course needs an hour and a half to do her hair and make up. or that's what the boys think. Lunch in town, spot of retail and a quick ten mins to get the slap on... (Boys, if you're reading this - that's a JOKE!) Editor: If only.... 11.50am  Pull up back in car park. Damn. Was hoping it would be empty. Bloke eyes me suspiciously as I head to location in full-length padded, furry coat to hide my costume. It's 90 degrees. 12.05pm  Arrive back on set to find someone's eaten all the sandwiches! It's gonna be a long day. 3.00pm  Take 73. Me: Just how many times do I have to run up here? Director: Until you look spectacular on camera, could be take 573.... 5.00pm  Chance for a breather while someone else is in the limelight. Do some PR with the curious old folks who have taken an interest in all the commotion. 6.00pm  Group of teenage girls mistake me for someone off 'Desperate Housewives'. Things are looking up. I decline their requests for autographs. 6.27pm  Was that a drop of rain I felt? The BBC didn't forecast rain till 7pm! Don't they know people RELY on them? 6.30pm  Yes. That was rain... RUN! 6.32pm  Someone's saying something about protecting props and equipment ... but what about MY HAIR? 6.45pm  We abandon last scene, which luckily can be done another time. Phew. 7.30pm  Cars are empty, props are drying, actors sent home. Overall, a tough, but fun day. And there's plenty more like that to come.... |
